Celebrate with Folk Art Flowers

Today, I am featuring the new Folk Art Flowers in a mini slimline design. So let's get started with some details of how I created this card. 

Design Steps:

I decided I wanted a black card base because it's such a striking look combined with bright colors. I embossed the 3" x 6" mat just for added interest. 

Mini Slimline Base: 6 1/2" x 6 1/4". Score in half at the 3 1/4" mark. 

Black Embossed Mat: 3" x 6"

I secured the flower images with clear drying glue. 

I added some greenery to each corner of the image panel. It's cut from the Folk Art Flowers Mixed die. 

For a sentiment I decided to use the Celebrate w/Shadow die. Cut the shadow in a bright pink and the phrase in black. 

To finish off my card, I secured the image panel to the card base with double sided tape and scattered a few enamel dots.

God Keeps His Promises

I hope your summer day is going well. Boy has it been hot here in Central florida.  Of course the best way to beat the heat is to stay inside and do some crafting! Today I am sharing a fun little home decor piece I made with some of the new CottageCutz.com files. Here is what I created.

I created this fun little home decor piece. I picked up this little stand from the dollar store. I decorated it with all kinds of die cuts from CottageCutz.com. I cut them all out in white and then used my chalks and markers to color everything in.

Folk Art Rooster Thank You

 Today, I am featuring the new Folk Art Rooster die as a thank you card. A friend of ours gave my hubby a bougainvillea plant that he was looking for and not willing to pay the exorbitant price that the nurseries were asking for. She found one that need some tender loving care and gave it to him. He has quite the green thumb and it's already looking good.  So, he wanted to send her a card to express his thanks. 

Card Details:

I started my card with the card colors. I had this designer paper that I thought would make a great background. It has a folk-art appeal to it.

Navy panel: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"

Designer Paper: 4" x 5 1/4"

Then I cut the rooster in navy and red colors. 

I was originally going to make this a fun fold card but I changed my mind at some point and just made it a double arrow card. To make the arrows I cut navy cardstock at 3" x 4".  Then on the 3" side I scored at the 1" point. On the 4" side, I made a mark at 2".

I lined it up as you see in the photo and scored. Then turn and score from the tick mark to the other edge of score line. 

When the scoring is done, use your bone folder to burnish and fold into the arrow shape. 

To attach to the designer paper, you add adhesive to the flap. I used double sided tape. 

Then attach the arrow shapes to your designer paper. 

Now I am ready to stamp my image panel. I found this die cut shape with a navy blue edging from a card kit in my stash and decided to use it as a frame for my rooster.  I stamped the thank you sentiment in navy ink and attached the rooster with dimensional adhesive. 

I attached the image panel to the card base. It was at this point I decided not to make this a fun fold card. It was going to be a free-standing card and I didn't want that, and I also couldn't get the bottom arrow panel to tuck in like I wanted. So, I lifted the designer paper from the navy panel and added it to a card base measuring 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". 

I stamped and decorated this panel that was originally going to be under the front image panel flap. I used a couple of flowers from the Folk Art Flowers die.

Group Post Featuring Folk Art Release

Hello CottageCutz friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit with us today. This post is featuring cards using the new Folk Art release. There are 19 new designs in this release and are so perfect for cardmaking, journaling, and scrapbooking. They allow you to add a beautiful touch of folk art to whatever you may be creating.

We have had a good response when we do a group post on a new release. It gives you the opportunity to see more card samples from the Design Team. There are 3 samples in today's post and tomorrow we will have another 3 samples. 

Also just released is our Patriotic 4th of July release with 12 amazing patriotic designs and bundle pricing at 40% off. The DT will begin showing samples starting Monday and continue for the month of June. 

Now onto our Folk Art Samples for today. 

Card 1: Our first sample today is from Pam Mackay. She created a beautiful slimline card (8 1/2" x 3 1/2") to send to a friend that she hasn't talked to in a while. Her card is featuring the new Folk Art Cat, Folk Art Rabbit and Folk Art Flowers dies. 

She placed her images on black cardstock and then onto a pink layering panel. These colors really make the images pop. I like how she circled the images with hearts and stems and then her middle panel is more flowers. She has really captured the essence of folk-art design with this card. Her friend will love it and, it's a great way of reconnecting. 

 Card 2: Our next sample today is from Melinda Beltran. She used the Folk Art Hen die and the Folk Art Egg die to create this beauty. The colors she used on the hen and egg give it a vintage flair. 

Her background designer paper has a rustic look and framed with the Scalloped Rectangle die helps completes the vintage style. The punny sentiment certainly will produce a smile for the recipient and is a perfect ending for her card.  It will be a great pick-me-up card for someone who need a little cheering. 

Card 3:  Our last sample for today is one that I (Mary Marsh) created using the Folk Art Heart die.  I used the colors from this week's color challenge #951 on Splitcoaststampers. 

We were to use berry burst, lemon lolly and shaded spruce for our color trio.

 

I made this card for my good friend who is dealing with a "C" diagnosis on her hubby. I want to let her know that I am supporting both of them. 

I embossed the card base with a floral embossing folder for added interest since this card is a bit more on the clean and simple side. The heart is cut in the required challenge colors. I stamped my sentiment in berry burst ink on lemon lolly cardstock. Added a few sequins to finish off the card.

Folk Art Bear

Hello crafty friends!

This week we are showcasing the brand new Folk Art Collection!  All 19 dies in this new release are 35% OFF!

I admit, I had to Google "Folk Art" to get a good feel for what this style is before setting out to make my card.  But I was drawn to the striking contrast of vibrant colors popping off of a black background, so that was my inspiration today.  You won't see any coloring on this card today as it's all die cut paper!  (Although, in hindsight... I wonder if I should have filled in more black space with some white gel pen dots that are so "me"?! ☺)

Design Steps:

I started by cutting the Folk Art Bear, Folk Art Flowers, Folk Art Flowers Mixed and the Folk Art Tulip from a mix of textured colored cardstock.  I didn't know exactly what I was going to use, so I cut a bunch and had some left over for another card/s.

Next, I cut a black card base at 7" x 10" and scored the 10" side in half.  Then I cut a light blue mat (same color as my bear) at 4-3/4" x 6-3/4" then set those aside until the end.

Then, I cut another smaller black panel at 4-1/2" x 6-1/2" -- this will be my main panel for my die cuts.

I just started playing with layouts and getting a feel for where I wanted the elements and color placement, without gluing anything down yet. 

Once I found the layout I wanted, I took a pic on my phone for reference, then I cleared my black panel and started to glue together my elements, and then adhered onto the black panel.  

I knew I wanted my bear to be on top, possibly overlapping some of the greenery around it, so I only laid it on there for reference while I arranged and adhered the rest of my elements under and around him.

Once I got everything glued down (except my bear), I added foam dots to the back of him and attached on top.

And the front is done!  How do we feel about no sentiment on the front of a card??  I'm not sure, but I certainly didn't leave room for one without covering stuff up, so I opted to add it to the inside.  

I cut a piece of white cardstock at 4-3/4" x 6-3/4" and attached to inside.  I then glued one of the tulips I had already die cut to the right bottom corner.  I'm going to leave a sentiment off until I know what I want to use it for.  ☺
