Two Slimline Christmas Cards

Hello Scrapping Cottage friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit with us today. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Saturday edition of the Blog.

IT'S NEW RELEASE TIME! The new Christmas dies are in the online store with 40 new designs and they are on a limited time sale at 30% off. And, Christmas Part 2 has just been released. For a limited time you can save 55% off the bundle or 30% off individual dies.

It's not too soon to get started on your Christmas cards. And, I am usually looking for a way to get a few cards done quickly. Using two of the new designs I am presenting a way to make two easy slimline cards by using designer paper and also with ink blending.

In the Christmas release there are 4 new slimline designs. For your viewing pleasure, I am featuring the Night Before Christmas Slimline and the Winter Scene Slimline.  So let's get started with some details of how I created my cards.

Design Steps:

For this card, I decided to create an ink blended background. It's another way to add the "wow" effect to a card.  I used a blending brush an ink daubers along with chipped sapphire, navy,  seedless preserves, grape, wild honey and spiced marmalade inks for the blending. I used Bristol smooth cardstock for this layer. I really like the way it takes ink.
Then I used some white acrylic paint mixed with a bit of water and splashed the background for a starry look. I added a few stars cut from white cardstock for a bit more interest.
Next, I cut the Winter Scene Slimline die in white cardstock. I added some pale yellow cardstock behind the windows to project a warm glow. I also sponged the moon with a bit of wild honey ink. For the sentiment on this card, I decided to stamp directly on the snow bank in navy ink.
Now I am ready for card assembly.  I attached the winter scene image with double sided tape. I decided to add some layers to this card. I used navy cardstock and then the card base is a sugarplum shade. I thought it coordinated with the purple inks I used.

Sugarplum card base: 9 1/4" x 3 3/4"
Navy blue layer: 9 1/8" x 3 5/8"
Image panel: 9" x 3 1/2"

To finish off my card I added some wink of stella to all the stars and trees. This one would be easy to create multiples of and each ink blended background would look just a bit different.

Now onto card #2.

Since I had the dies in mind I was going to use, I looked through my designer paper for something with a nighttime sky. I found this one that I thought would work perfectly with the Night Before Christmas die.
white card base: 9" x 3 1/2"
designer paper layer: 9" x 3 1/2"
Next, I cut the image from white cardstock.
I decided I wanted a moon in this night sky so I used a 1" punch and cut one from designer paper. The paper was a lighter blue and I sponged navy ink around the edge to bring out the lighter shade. Then I stamped my ho-ho-ho sentiment.
After I assembled the card I didn't like this moon so I cut one from white cardstock and sponged 2 shades of yellow ink.
Now that my card elements are prepared, I am ready to start card assembly. I attached the designer paper to the card base with double sided tape.

My image is next and I used a combo of double sided tape and dimensional adhesive for Santa and reindeer. I changed the moon and sponged a couple of shades of yellow ink and then stamped the sentiment. I used the 2nd largest stitched circle die for the moon.

I also placed some of the white pieces back into the die using the inlay technique. To get the yellow light in the windows, I cut small pieces of yellow cardstock and glued them to the back of the panel. This method was a bit easier than laying in all the individual pieces.

Well, that's it for me for this post. I hope I have given you a couple of ideas for ways to use the new Slimline images. This is another card that I think would be quite easy to create multiples of. See you next Saturday.

Bugs And Kisses

It's Jeanne sharing with you on the Tuesday edition of the blog.  I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend and got to enjoy yourself.  I got to do a bit of card making and have a fun all occasion card to share.

This card uses one of the NEW DESIGNS from Lil' Bluebird Designs at the Scrapping Cottage - Love Bugs.

I started with a sketch from Splitcoaststampers and then picked my paper in colors that went with bugs and a frog.  I love the expression on the frog's face.  He is too cute!  I stamped the images on a stitched circle and colored them using Prismacolor pencils.  Then I stamped my sentiment and cut it out using the coordinating die.  I love that the sentiments in these stamp sets have dies!  And best yet they are on sale right now!

Included in the sale are the 16 new Lil' Bluebird Designs  Photopolymer Clear Stamp Sets and coordinating dies. There are stamps for so many of your card making occasions and then some. The coordinating dies just make it a perfect fit for your card making designs.

And speaking of recent releases, the CottageCutz Sentiments with Shadows. and Slimline Dies are also on sale!

There is still time to take advantage of the Labor Day Sale at The Scrapping Cottage! Be sure to visit the online store to see what's on sale.  The sale ends September 10 at 9:00 pm Pacific time.

Hello My Finned Friend

Happy Friday!  It's Jeanne bringing you the Friday edition of the blog.  My card features one of the new stamps from Lil' Bluebird Designs and one of the new sentiment with shadows dies.  Right now both of these releases are on sale for a limited time!

I started by coloring the cat and fishbowl from the Kitty Love stamp set and cutting the Hello using the Hello with Shadow die.

I used mostly Spectrum Noir Tri-Blend markers with a few Copic markers.

Next I cut an A2 panel from patterned paper and a scalloped circle using the second largest of the dies and a stitched circle also using the second largest of the dies.

To get my ombre panels I first colored the whole circle using Distress Oxide ink and a blending brush.

I then used the Hills Slimline die to cut a curve about 1/3 of the way from the top.  Setting the top portion aside, I inked the rest of the circle.  Then I cut another curve, set the upper portion aside and inked the bottom portion. This gave me three gradated panels for my circle.

I turned them over and used double sided tape to hold them together.  This allowed me to flip them over  and glue them as one piece to the scalloped circle.

I used a coordinating ribbon on the left side of the panel.

Using foam tape I popped up the circle over the ribbon.

I added my kitty, the sentiment and a few enamel dots to finish it off!  I hope you've enjoyed my card today.  Be sure to visit the online store to check out these and other stamps and dies from the new releases!

Another Birthday - No Prob-llama

Hello Scrapping Cottage friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit with us today. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Saturday edition of the Blog.

IT'S NEW RELEASE TIME! The Scrapping Cottage has just added a new brand to the company line. Lil' Bluebird Designs is being introduced with 16 new Photopolymer Clear Stamp Sets and 16 coordinating dies. There are stamps for so many of your card making occasions and then some. The coordinating dies just make it a perfect fit for your card making designs.

They are currently on a great bundle price at 40% off and the individual dies are 25% off. And speaking of sales there is currently a sizzling summer sale with savings of up to 65% on selected dies. It's time to get those dies you have on your wish lists.

Also just introduced are some new Sentiment Phrases with Shadows. You can pick up this bundle at a 51% savings and or the individual dies at 25% off. The shadow dies are so popular right now and they coordinate so well with the new Lil' Bluebird Stamps and dies that were just released.

Today for your viewing pleasure I am featuring the new Llama Love stamp & die set. I used it to create a birthday card. I like to have birthday cards on hand to send out to my family and friends. I have a large extended family so I am always in need of cards. So let's get started with some details on how I created my card.

Design Steps:

Having a layout in mind at the card start is always a big boost for me. That way I can just choose the card colors and designer paper and I am good to go. I liked this week's sketch #867 on Splitcoaststampers because of the somewhat simplistic design. The circle was also a good resting spot for my llama image.

I looked through my designer papers for a fun and festive designer paper. I found this one with a fiesta theme and I thought it would be a good background for the llama. I also embossed the angled rectangle panel with a cactus folder.

Turquoise Card base: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
Designer Paper Layer: 4 1/8" x 5 3/8"
Crushed Curry (Yellow) Angled Rectangle Layer: 1 1/2" x 5 3/8"
White Image Circle: - Stitched Circle Set (4th largest)
Melon Layering Circle: -  Circle set (3rd largest die)
Next, I stamped, colored and die cut the llama and cactus images. For my coloring mediums,  I used a combination of alcohol markers and Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol.
For the llama body I decided to use some Stampendous fun flock. It gives a fuzzy texture and is adhered with a 2 way glue pen. You press it into the image and let it dry. IRL it looks great on my card. The recipient will love the added touch.
The photos below show what makers and pencils I used.
I stamped the first sentiment on the white circle with a turquoise ink. I placed it at an angel for added interest. This sentiment is not part of the Llama Love stamp set.

Now that my elements are prepared, I am ready to start card assembly.  I attached the embossed panel first because it needed to be trimmed once I angled it.

Next, I attached the circles to the panel with double sided tape. The images are attached with dimensional adhesive.
For the flag element below the circle, I used a white flag I had in my stash and stamped my 2nd sentiment in turquoise ink. This sentiment is part of the Llama Love Stamp set. I layered it with a strip of melon cardstock and attached with dimensional adhesive.
To complete my card I added the turquoise card base to the image panel with double sided tape. And, that's my card for this week. I hope I have given you another idea for a way to use this new stamp set. See you next Saturday!
