Exploring in a MotorHome (New Die)

There is another great release of new dies over in the online store. The Expressions Plus (word dies) with 35 designs are available right now. The font is so beautiful and you will definitely want these in your collection. Janet (our video artist) has put together a video showcasing some of these new dies.

For your viewing pleasure today, I am featuring one of the new dies. I am using the Explore Phrase. As soon as I saw this word, I thought of making an outdoor scene with the dies from the November 2016 Camping Bundle set.

I have some friends that just retired. they bought a motorhome and are taking a 3 month trip across our beautiful country. This is a retirement celebration card for them.

I thought the outdoor scene would work best in a different type fold. I found a tutorial on YouTube for a double front fold card. You have your front image, then an inside image an then another panel for a 2nd inside image.  Here is a video link. I will also give you a step by step tutorial.

So let's get started with some details on how I created my card this week.

Step 1: I started by cutting my navy blue card base. It is 5 1/2" x 8 1/2". I scored it at the 4 1/4" point and cut 2 1/4" off  the 8 1/2" side. This is how I achieved the front fold on my card.  I set that aside to work on my outside image panel.

Step 2: The next step was to cut the Motorhome. I used light and dark gray + red cardstock on the image. The white panel is cut at 2 3/4" x 3 1/4". I layered that over red cardstock measuring 3" x 3 1/2". I stamped my sentiment and set this aside to work on the inside image panel.

 

Step 3: On this panel I used the images from the Campsite & Woodland Friends dies. I cut the pine tree in a dark green, a yellow sun and the directional arrows in red, green and blue. I cut a small cloud from the sun & clouds die and used that as a template and did a bit of background sponging.

The white panel is cut at 2 3/4" x 3 1/4". Cut the explore phrase word in navy cardstock. I layered this panel over red cardstock measuring 3" x 3 1/2".

Step 4: I cut another piece of white cardstock at 5 /14" x 8" and scored it at 4". I attached this image panel to the cardstock and then secured it to my navy blue card base.

Now I can attach the front panel to the card.  It goes directly over the inside image. I used Scor-tape to make sure it stays put when the card gets opened and closed.

 

 

Step 5: Now it's time to decorate the inside hidden panel or the double fold part. I used the Jamboree Bear die and the campfire from the Campfire Squirrel die. The background paper is some that I had in my stash. It reminds me of a nighttime sky so I thought it would work well here.

Well, that completes my card for this week. I hope I have shown you another way to use the new Expression Phrases dies and incorporating them with existing CottageCutz product you already have. And, I hope you will give this fun fold a try. I think it makes a big impact on a card.

Ben on a Wiper Card

Lois here today with another fun-fold card  -- a wiper card -- using several dies and a die/stamp set from CottageCutz.  I love interactive cards that provide a small surprise.

Supplies for this card are as follows:

Two strips of blue cardstock 4 1/4" x 8 1/2"
One strip of blue cardstock 1 1/2" x 3"
Five pieces of red cardstock - 1 1/4" x 4" (2), 4" x 5 1/4" (1), 3" x 4 1/4" (1), 1 3/8" square (1)
Three pieces of red checked paper - 1 1/8" x 3 7/8", 3 7/8" x 5 1/8", 1 1/4" square
Three pieces of white cardstock 1 1/8" x 3 7/8", 3 3/4" x 5", 7/8" round
One scrap of green cardstock - 5"

To construct the card:

Score both of the 4 1/4" x 8 1/2" strips at 1 1/2" and 3".

Fold both strips as shown

Place the 1 1/2" x 3" strip as shown, with the right-hand corner at the one-inch mark.  Score diagonally at 1".

Place a small piece of Scor-Tape at the score line.

Place Scor-Tape on the small outside section of both strips, as shown.

Place the small strip  in the left-hand small section so that the diagonal score line is just below the top of the card.

Adhere the two panels as shown, with the small "wiper" strip at the top left.

When the card is closed, the "wiper" will fold down in between the two sections.  You can now decorate the front of the card.

To complete the card I stamped and cut the various images needed.  As you can see, I used the Ben w/Puppy stamp/die set, as well as several other dies -- Spring Grass, Tree Stump and Log for Peekers, and Campsite.  I colored Ben and the puppy with Copic markers and sponged on some brown distress ink to the log.

                                      

Then cut the various pieces of cardstock and patterned paper as described above, stamping the sentiment "Hi" on the white circle.

On the farm

Another new CottageCutz products line I share with you today. This are stamp & die combo sets. You can choose from eight sets for different occasions.
I have chosen the set - On the farm and supplemented it with two stamps and dies from the set - Farm animals.

Supplies:
- white card base: 5.3 x 5.3" (13,5 x 13,5 cm), folded
- white cardstock: 4.6 x 4.6" (11,7 x 11,7 cm)
- watercolor paper
- Distress ink: Dried Marigold, Worn Lipstick, Festive Berries, Aged Mahogany, Spiced Marmalade, Scattered Straw, Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Hickory Smoke, Antique Linen, Ground Espresso

Since I use Distress inks for coloring, I stamped selected motives with black Archival ink on watercolor paper.

Once we have all the motives that we want to put on card painted, cut them out with matching dies that are attached to the set.

For background trim a white cardstock, shadow it with Distress inks, and stamp "Hay friend".

When the background is dry, begin by placing the elements on the card. Some of them are fastened with glue and some with self-adhesive foam pads to create depth.
The sun is from the Campsite die set.

Let's Go Camping!

Hi, Lois here today with a fun fold card.  I have to admit that I'm not much of a camper.   I do remember one summer when I was a kid, we went to the Pocono Mountains for a week; but "camped" in a cabin -- not a tent.  With that said, I have a gatefold card for you today -- using several of the dies from the "Camping" release from CottageCutz.

Supplies for this card are:

Gold cardstock - 5 1/2" x 11" scored at 2 3/4" and 8 1/4"

White cardstock - 2 pieces 5 1/4" x 2 1/2", 1 piece 5 1/4" square

Various scrap pieces of colored cardstock - green, red, pale blue, green, silver, yellow, tan, orange

Distress ink - green, orange, brown

Patterned paper - grass, sky, sand, macadam

CottageCutz dies - Jeep, Camping Trailer, Camping Gear, Campfire Clothesline, Campfire Squirrel, Camping Phrases, Snowcapped Mountains, Campsite

Double-sided tape and tape runner

I started by cutting out the pieces for the Jeep and Trailer and constructing each one.  I used double sided tape for the smaller pieces to make it easier to adhere them to the base pieces.

 Then I made the scene by cutting the patterned paper and adhering it to the two white panels, which I then glued to the front panel.  I created my scene by adding the jeep and trailer as well as some trees, the mountains, and the sun.

The fun part of a gatefold card is when you open the panels to the inside.

Using several of the accessory dies in the Camping release, I created a fun campsite.
