A RaceCar Birthday

Hello Scrapping Cottage friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit with us today. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Saturday edition of the Blog.

We have a brand new release of Just For Guys dies in the online store, and they are currently 25% off.  There are 14 new designs and they are ideal for Father's Day cards, guy stuff or car buffs. They all have a retro and classic look. The design team has begun to show samples using the new dies. So if you haven't seen them, take a look back on the Blog for some great ideas.

For my card today, I am featuring the new Racecars & Flags + the Build-A-Sign dies.  Masculine cards are made so easy using these new dies. I needed a birthday card for a nephew who is a big Nascar racing fan. Let's get started with some details on how I created my project.

Step 1: Since I knew what dies I was using this week, I had to decide on my card colors first. I think that stripes always have a nice masculine vibe and red & blue stripes for sure. I found this striped patterned paper in my stash - so red & blue were my colors of choice.
White card base: 5" square
Blue Layer: 4 7/8" square
Patterned Paper: 4 3/4" square
White Image Panel: 3 1/2" square
Step 2: Cut the images from red, blue and white cardstocks. My sign choice was based on the word I was going to stamp on it. Needed something large enough to fit nephew.

Secured them to the white square panel with double sided tape and Ranger multi matte medium. I added the striped gray paper to resemble a road or racetrack.
Stamped my happy birthday sentiment with denim ink on an angle with the help of my MISTI. The nephew word is also stamped with denim ink.
Step 3: Started card assembly. The image panel is secured with mounting tape and the flags with double sided tape.
Finished my card by attaching to the white card base. I hope I have given you another idea for a way to use the new masculine dies. Here is a link to another card I made using these same dies for Father's Day. See you next Saturday!

Just For Guys Design Team Samples (Part 2)

Hello Scrapping Cottage friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit today. We are sampling DT cards from the new Just For Guys release. There are 14 dies in this release and it's currently on sale for 25% off.
They are ideal for all your masculine type cards. For all your car buffs with a great retro and classic look. And, the Retro Alphabet dies have so many possibilities.

We have had a good response when we do a group post on a release. It gives you the opportunity to see more card samples from the Design Team. So we are continuing that again this month. We have 3 more samples for your viewing pleasure today.

Card 1:  This first card is from Pam MacKay. She used the Dad's Tools die to create this great masculine card. It's called a Bench Fold card and here is a link to the Splitcoaststampers tutorial.
This is such a perfect card (Birthday or Father's Day) for the man who loves using his tools.

She did such a fabulous job turning it into a work bench, even down to the faux wood paneling. Did you notice her sentiment above the work bench? She used the Retro Tag Toppers die to stamp her sentiment. And, this does fold flat for mailing!!
Card 2:  This next sample is from Janja Albrecht. She also used the Dad's Tools die to create a great retirement card. And, a Splitcoaststampers tutorial helped her create a side step card. Here is a link to that tutorial.

She decorated it to resemble a man's tool chest. So spot-on for the guy who is getting ready to retire and will finally have the time to spend using all those tools. The tools all look so realistic- don't you agree?
Card 3: Our last sample for today is from Jeanne Knobbe. She used the Happy Father's Day Phrase + Racecars & Flags die to create a card for the race loving Dad. This would also work for the guy who is a car enthusiast or "gearhead" as some people say. Her card colors and papers are terrific for a masculine card.
The team did such a fabulous job with their samples today. I hope they have sparked some additional ideas for ways to use these new dies.  And, remember they are currently 25% off in the online store.

Have Fun -- On the Road

Hi, Lois here with a card made with two of the brand-new CottageCutz "Just for Guys" dies.  Included in this set are 14 dies perfect for that masculine card you've been struggling with!  I used two of them on my card today.  Again I looked back at an old Sketch Challenge layout on Splitcoaststampers.

I used this layout for my card, but I rotated it 180 degrees so that the larger area is at the bottom rather than at the top.

When I saw the Automotive Icons die, I thought I could use the die-cut pieces to create a background -- so that's exactly what I did.  I put a two-sided adhesive sheet on the back of a 6" x 6" piece of black cardstock and cut out the images.

In order to get my top layer balanced, I made a template out of some copy paper . . .

. . . and then cut my cardstock, as follows:

White - 8 1/" x 5 1/2", 3 3/4" x 5"
Black - 4" x 5 1/4"

Using the copy paper template, I cut a lime green piece and a white piece, trimming the white piece slightly smaller.

I then attached most of the Automotive Icon pieces down the sides of the smaller white panel, creating my "patterned paper" background.

Now it was time to cut my Build-a-Sign pieces.  After I decided which one of the cute designs I wanted to use for my card, I cut out the pieces using scraps of colored cardstock.

I then colored them with Copic markers to give them a bit more texture . . .

. . . and created my focal layer, adding the car silhouette from the Automotive Icons, and stamping the sentiment.

Here again is my finished card.
