I Dig You

Happy Friday!  It's Jeanne today with a card featuring the adorable tomte from the new Gardening release.  I learned a few things this week. To me the new tomtes look a lot like gnomes. So I wondered - what is the difference? I found that Tomte is a Swedish word for a sprite that is pretty much the same as a gnome.  In Norwegian he would be called a nisse.  Very interesting!
Now, on to my card.

As I often do, I started by choosing my colors which I got from the patterned paper I decided to use.  This paper is one of my favorites and features a combination of coral, light grey and light blue/green.
I cut the pieces from Calypso Coral, Pool Party and Smoky Slate cardstock along with white.  The tomte and accessories use the Flower Power Tomte die and I used the Hat Box w/Flowers die for the foliage.
I edged the beard and mustache in just a bit of Distress Oxide Pumice Stone.  I used Distress Oxide inks in Antique Linen, Tea Dye, Tattered Rose, and Vintage Photo to color his face, shoes and shovel handle.
I cut a panel 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches from the grey/white floral.  Using the largest of the wide stitched circle frames I cut three from Calypso Coral cardstock and one from the zig zag patterned paper.  The third largest of the Stitched Circles fits perfectly inside the frame and I used that as I like the sticthing around the edges.  You could also just use the negative from the frame.

The sentiment is heat embossed in white on a half inch strip.
To give some height to the frame I used three corals frame underneath  the patterned one.  I glued that to the panel and then inset the white circle.
I added my tomte, bird and flower to the circle.  I trimmed the strip and glued it directly to the card, adding the foliage.  The whole panel is adhered to an A2 card base.

Mother's Day Release Design Team Samples (Part 3)

Hello Scrapping Cottage friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit today. We are sampling DT cards from the Mother's Day release.

There are 22 dies in this release that includes 3 Mothers Day phrase dies. All the other dies could be used year round for a variety of occasions.
We have had a good response when we do a group post on a new release. It gives you the opportunity to see more card samples from the Design Team. So we are continuing that again this month.

There are 4 samples for today and later in the month, we will post another set of 4 samples. Plus the design team will be featuring these dies in their posts over the next couple of weeks.

Card 1: This first sample is from Anja Zurga. She used the hat box w/flowers die and created a cake. Love her creative thought process on this one. Notice how she spread embossing paste on the sides to resemble frosting.
By using the scallop circle die it draws your eye right to the image. This would work as a birthday card or even a wedding card.
Card 2:  The next sample is another from Anja. On this super sweet card she used the Mama Kangaroo & Joey and Love You Mom dies. The card she created could be used for an anniversary card or just to let that special someone know you care.
The joey (baby kangaroo) was replaced with the heart and love you phrase. The pink heart paper really completes this design.
Card 3: The next sample is one from Lois Bak. She also used the hat box w/flowers die to create a beautiful card for Mom. It's a type of card that could have been used for Mother's Day or anytime during the year you want to send some love to Mom. The layout is from the Splitcoaststampers sketch #696.
Card 4:  The last sample for today is one that I created using the Bouquet of Tulips die. The card colors are from this week's color challenge #687 on Splitcoaststampers. Even though this die is part of the Mother's Day release, it can easily be used for any other type of card.
I hope the samples shown today have sparked some ideas for alternate ways to use these new dies.  They are all so beautiful and the detail in all of them is amazing. We will have one more group post the end of this month using these dies.
