Hocus Pocus

Happy Friday!  It's Jeanne today with a Halloween card for someone far away. I planning to send this to my daughter who lives a few hours away in another city.

My card uses two of the dies from the new Halloween release and one from the Magical Fantasy release.  The Halloween release features 14 new dies that are on sale for a limited time in the online store!

To begin I cut most of my pieces from white cardstock.  For the gnome's wand I used black glitter paper and gold foil.

I have cups I use to separate my pieces.  For this card, I used one for the gnome, one for the tree stump/broom and one for the wand.  I find it easier to keep track of the pieces and assemble when I do this.

I colored my pieces using Distress Oxide ink and then glued them together.  I even mixed up the die pieces a bit and used the broom handle from one die and the broom straw from the other! Below are the colors I used.

For my card front, I cut a panel 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches from starry paper, a panel 4 1/4 x 2 inches from striped paper and three strips of coordinating colors (green, purple and black glitter) 1/2 x 4 inches to use as banners.

I used the second largest of the Stitched Circle dies to cut a white backdrop for my scene.  My sentiment is stamped on what will be the middle banner.

After adhering the striped panel to the starry panel, I glued the circle overlapping the striped panel by 3/4 inch.

I fishtailed the ends on the purple and glitter strips then I glued them down at an angle.  The ends hang off the left side of the card for now.  The images were added after the banners.

I attached my green sentiment strip and used scissors to trim off the excess from the left side.  Using a glue dot, I adhered some metallic twine to the left side of the banner.  I wanted this to mimic the gnome's wand.

To cover up where they are attached, I cut a few more stars in gold and black glitter from the Once Upon a Time die and used a foam dots to adhere them to the card.

Princess Birthday

Hello Scrapping Cottage friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit with us today. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Saturday edition of the Blog.

We are still featuring cards using the new Magical Fantasy release.  If you haven't seen the Magical Fantasy release yet, you have to drop by the online store and check it out. These new dies are all so cute and whimsical. There are 27 new designs, and I am in love with everyone of them. They are currently on a Memorial Day sale at 25% off.

Today, I am featuring the new Fairytale Castle + Little Princess & Roses dies to create a birthday card for a little girl. The princess theme is so popular with little girls, and I have plenty of friends with little girls and friends with granddaughters. I used a inlay technique for this card. So let's get started with some details on how I created it.

Step 1: I selected some patterned paper that had a cloud like background. I used a white card base to keep it neutral since its going to a little girl.
card base: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
designer paper layer: 4 1/8" x 5 3/8"

I used the 2nd largest stitched circle die (3 3/8") to cut my circle in the designer paper.
I built my castle on the die cut circle. Used the colors on the packaging because they were perfect for this card.
Stamped the birthday sentiment in grape ink. I knew I was going to angle the Princess sentiment so the card corner was the best spot.
I decided at this point to start some card assembly. I used a double layer of mounting tape on the back of the image panel. I wanted it to be raised up enough so the castle image would sit flat against the card base.

I cut the Princess phrase in pink cardstock using the Little Princess & Roses die. I cut 2 phrases to make it stand out more on the designer paper.
I adhered this to image panel with Ranger multi matte medium. I also used the crown that is part of the Princess die. The Princess wand is from the Once Upon a Time Die.
Well that's it for me for this Saturday. I hope you enjoy the holiday weekend and that there are some fun plans in your schedule. See you next time!

Once Upon A time there was a girl...and a boy...

Happy Friday Cottage Cutz fans!  It's Jeanne today with a wedding (or engagement) card using the Magical Fantasy dies.  My family has a big wedding coming up this summer and there are lots of activities scheduled so I need a few cards.  When creating this one I certainly had Joe and Abi in mind.
This card can be personalized with the couple's wedding colors for a truly special card.

The card base, oval and sentiment are a pearlized white card stock which makes for an elegant card.  I started by cutting the sentiment from this card stock, the rings from gold and the flowers from plain white card stock.
I used a self adhesive backing on the rings and the sentiment.  When using a self adhesive backing the die often cuts through the card stock but not the backing, making it very easy to lift the die cut piece up off of the backing.

Next, I used sponge daubers and colored the roses using a soft yellow, pink and green.
I often use a silicone mat when I am gluing die pieces together.  While the pieces dry they do not stick to the mat.
Then I cut an oval from the pearlized white and three from pink card stock.
I stacked and glued them together adding the sentiment and entwining the rings on the sentiment.
I glued this to the card base and added the roses to the sides.
Finally I added a small rhinestone to one of the rings.
Although this card is mostly white, it has a hint of color in the stacked ovals and the flowers set off the sentiment.
