Thinking of You

Hello Scrapping Cottage Friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit today. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Wednesday edition of the Blog.

Today for your viewing pleasure, I am featuring another of the April release dies. This time it's the Corner Flourish Elite die. I paired it up with the Mushroom & Flowers die to create a thinking of you card.
My card this week started with a sketch and from there I chose my patterned paper and coordinating cardstock. There are many sketch blogs on the internet and this time I chose the MojoMonday sketch for my layout.

When you work with a sketch you don't have to follow it exactly. For instance, instead of the corner circles I used the corner flourish die. Let's get started with some more details on how I created my card. I hear card makers say that they struggle with card layouts. That's why I look for a sketch to help the process along. It just helps to get the creative juices flowing.
Cardstock and Patterned Paper Measurements:
  •  soft suede base measures 4 1/4" x 11" and scored at 5 1/2"
  • patterned paper measure 4 1/8" x 5 3/8"
  • tilted panel is cut with the CottageCutz square set. I used the largest one 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"
  • rectangle patterned paper is 1 1/2" x 4 1/8". Daffodil satin ribbon is 5/8" wide.
  • vanilla rectangle panel is 3 1/2" x 2 1/2"
For assembly: I die cut the corner flourishes in a light blue cardstock and attached with multi medium matte. I like this adhesive because it dries clear. I think the flourishes add an elegant touch to the card.
On the image panel, I used the flower from the mushroom & flowers set and cut in daffodil cardstock. I love the detail on The CottageCutz dies as well as the additional pieces that come with them. For instance, I was able to cut the pistil in the soft suede color for some great contrast. I am not a gardener, that duty falls to my hubby, but I think that's what this part of the flower is called (lol)!!!
For the sentiment, I used the thinking of you die and cut in the soft suede cardstock. I also used the multi medium matte to adhere the words. I scattered a few sequins and that completes my card for this week.
See you again next Wednesday Blogger friends! Until next time......inky hugs. If you have any questions about what I have created just ask. I will get back to you with an answer.

~Happy Spring~

Hello Scrapping Cottage Friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit today. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Wednesday edition of the Blog.

For your viewing pleasure, I am showcasing one of the new April release dies and also demonstrate how you can take a single die and add layers, a little embossing and some created embellishments to dress up the card.

Let's get started with some details on how I created this card:

cardstock and patterned paper sizes:
daffodil card base measures 4 1/4" x 11" and scored at 5 1/2"
pomegranate embossed layer  is 4 1/8" x 5 3/8"
patterned paper layer is 3 1/8 x 4 3/8"

I used a flower embossing folder that just embosses around the cardstock edge. Thereby creating a perfect frame for the next layer where I used my patterned paper.

I used the new large leafy flourish and cut 2 of them in a dark green card stock. I added an extra swirl at the top right and some extra leaves on the middle left.  That just helped create balance on my card. This is adhered with multi matte medium. It's a strong adhesive and it dries clear unlike glossy accents.
To continue building my card, I cut some flowers from the mushroom & flowers die in daffodil and pomegranate.

My sentiment was stamped before I attached all the die cuts in a dark green ink. It makes it easier for placement to do that first. To finish off my card I added a butterfly cut from the butterfly with flowers die. I cut it once in daffodil cardstock and then in a daffodil patterned paper. I used the multi matte medium to attach just in the middle. That way I was able to lift the wings for added dimension. The solid butterfly is glued directly to the patterned paper layer.

Well Friends that's my card for today. I hope this provided some inspiration for you. The April release is filled with  awesome dies to help you create some gorgeous floral cards. Check it out.

Just a little reminder, it's not to late to enter our brand new challenge. There are prizes to be won. Check out all the details here.

So until next time.........inky hugs!

Love You, Mom

Hello Scrapping Cottage Fans! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit with us. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Wednesday edition of the Blog. Today for your viewing pleasure, I have created a little garden scene as a Mother's Day card. We will be celebrating Mother's Day here in the US on Sunday, May 8. It's just under 3 weeks away so time to get busy creating a card for Mom, Grandma, Daughter or someone special.

Here are some details on how I created this card:

The main die is the spring tree frame and I cut it in white card stock.  Using sponge daubers and distress inks I colored the tree, leaves, birdhouse, bird and tulips. The die cut measures 3 3/4" x 5". I set that aside to work on the background.

Background: I cut white card stock 3 7/8" x 5 1/8" and used a stencil to sponge in the sun rays.

Then I lightly sponged in a soft blue background and adhered this to my spring tree frame.

I then applied versamark ink and clear embossing powder and heat set. It gives a nice shine to the trees and leaves.

To highlight the scene I added a frame around cut in the deep purple shade and attached it to the spring tree frame with glue dots. The outside measurements are 3 7/8" x 5 1/8". The inside measurements are 3 3/8" x 4 5/8".

I used the parlor set and cut in a deep purple shade to set in the middle of my garden scene. The vase on the table is from the Mushroom & Flowers dies. It's the base for the smaller mushroom. Just another way to get more mileage out of your dies. I cut it in a chocolate card stock.

The flower in the vase is cut from the butterfly with flowers die. I cut it once in green cardstock then again in pink. I paper pieced the pink flower over the green and placed it in my vase.

Once the scene was created I attached it to a white card base measuring 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". I used mounting tape to pop it up on the white base.

To complete my card I stamped my sentiment and cut it out using the circle set and the stitched circle set. Attached to the side of my frame for a little interest.

Also, did you know that we are having a challenge for our fans and followers to display the cards you have made with CottageCutz dies? There are prizes to be won as well. Click here for all the details and the linky to submit your entry.

Well, my friends that's it for me for today. So until time....... inky hugs.

Happy Mother's Day

Hello Scrapping Cottage Fans! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit with us. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Wednesday edition of the Blog.  Today, I am giving you a sneak peak of some new brand new dies that will be coming to the shop later this week.

I have been asked how I start my cards or where I get the ideas for my layout. It's always a bit different for me. Sometimes I have the card layout in mind and I just start creating. And, then sometimes I have a particular theme in mind.

Today, my card started with my layout. There are many places on the web that provide card sketches. I used a sketch from Splitcoaststampers. So let's get started with the card details.

Card Base:  8 1/2" x 5 1/2" and scored at 4 1/4" to make an A2 card (4 1/4" x 5 1/2")
Patterned Paper:  4 1/8" x 5 3/8"
Large Rectangle Layer:  5" x 2" and white layer is 4 7/8" x 1 7/8"
Small Rectangle Layer:  3 3/4" x 2 1/4" and white layer is 3 5/8" x 2 1/8"
Green Background Panels: 1" x 4 1/8" and embossed with a flower pattern.

My Card Layout

After I decided on this sketch, I chose my patterned paper and that helped me decide on my card colors. Since the paper colors are a deep raspberry and olive green color, I stayed with that palette for my die cut flowers and leaves.

The flowers and leaves are the sneak peek I mentioned to you at the beginning of the post. The flowers are the "doodle flower set 1". They come with a background die and also the doodle flower die. Aren't they just the cutest little things?

I cut the background in the deep raspberry shade and decided to use some patterned paper to create a bit of contrast. I used dimensional adhesive and attached them to my card. To attach the doodle part of the flower I used multi-matte medium. It's a strong adhesive like glossy accents but it dries clear.

The leaves are also a new set of dies and come with a background and pattern die. They are the new leaves & stems dies.  I cut them in olive green and then a celery green shade. If you look close, you will see that on one set of the leaves I used light and then dark for the top layer. I just switched it around on the other set of leaves for interest.

I used the Mushrooms & Flowers die for the 2 small flowers on the card. I cut those in the deep raspberry shade and used the same patterned paper for the flower centers.

Since I used flowers, I decided to make it a Mother's Day card. We will be celebrating on Sunday, May 8 here in the U.S. I stamped my sentiment, added a couple of enamel dots in the raspberry color and I added a flag cut in the deep raspberry shade to complete my card.

Well friends, that's it for me for today. Hope you enjoyed the little peek I gave of the upcoming release. Also, did you know that we are having a challenge for our fans and followers to display the cards you have made with CottageCutz dies? There are prizes to be won as well.
