Christmas in July Card and Sale Reminder

Happy TuesDIE Cottage Cutz Friends!
Melinda here with you today. If you are one that celebrates the 4th of July, I hope you had a wonderful holiday yesterday! Mine was low key...just the way I like it! So today I am sharing a card featuring a Christmas in July theme. While I wait for the fantastic new Strawberries & Bees release! release to hit my doorstep, I thought I would share a project featuring some dies that are ON SALE RIGHT NOW!  Here's my project.

I created a scallop edged open faced box card. Here is a view of it standing open and looking straight on. The back panel is 4.25 x 5.5. So it is an A4 size.
Here's a quick little video showing what the finished card looks like.

Here's a view with it facing to my left.

Here's a view with it facing to my right. I started by creating my base in Adobe Illustrator and converting it into an SVG for my electronic machine. I also cut out mats for the background and the side panels. I covered the inside with my patterned paper and covered the outside panels with my patterned paper.

Next, I went to work creating the "base". I cut out a strip of 1.5" x 11" white cardstock. With the 11" along the horizontal plane, I scored my paper at .75" and then at 5.25" and then at 6" and then 10.25"

I started by folding one flap up and then gluing the first .75 score flush with that side panel and the bottom.

For the other side, I cut a piece of .75 x 1.5 cardstock from some scrap. I glued that piece the same as the other, flush with the other side and base. I am using this piece as a guide only to know where to glue the next fold that is on the strip. See the photo below.

I continued by gluing the next .75" piece to that side. I have one more strip of 4.25 and the last little piece to glue. For that last one, I folded it back in so that it would be flush with the other, very first piece glued. Hopefully that makes sense.

Once I got the base glued in place, I cut out a piece of my patterned paper at 1.5 x 4.25. I wanted to cover the white cardstock with matching paper. This shot also shows you how the inside looks after I glued them in. You can also see that folding that last little flap back seats the little box part well within the side panels. This gives it a nice clean look.

Next, I went to work die cutting all my pieces. I cut out several of the double stitched ovals. The largest in white, the next largest in cream x2 and then the next one down in cream. I layered the largest white and the next one down cream together. I then used the beautiful Farmhouse Floral to cut and create my can and floral arrangement. Once I colored all my pieces, I layered then into the can. I added a little thin twine bow for a little extra touch.

For the sentiment, I glued the Merry Christmas sentiment onto a couple layers of the double stitched ovals dies. I added one of the poinsettias for a little extra pizzazz and added a red dew drop to its center.

It is hard to tell, but it does "fold flat" in case you want to mail it. If you do, then you may want to lower the floral arrangement so it will fit into a standard A4 envelope.

Magic of Christmas

Hello CottageCutz friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit with us today. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Saturday edition of the Blog.

IT'S NEW RELEASE TIME! The new Christmas dies are in the online store with 40 new designs from Christmas Part 1 and 19 new designs from Christmas Part 2.

Today for your viewing pleasure, I have a design featuring The Magic of Christmas die. It made for such a cute and whimsical scene as so many of our dies do. Here are two other cards I made using our scene building dies.  So let's get started on some details of how I created my card.

Design Steps:

I started my card this week with the layout. As I have said so many times before having the sketch in mind helps jumpstart the card making process for me. I find the sketches I use very easy to interpret. I liked the sketch #880 on Splitcoaststampers. I thought it would work well for the oval shape of the die.
I looked through my designer paper for a background pattern that might fit and not overwhelm the die scene. I found this subtle snowflake pattern that I only had pieces of, but I had enough to use for the three horizontal layers.
Blue Card Base: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
Designer Paper Layer: 3 7/8" x 3 11/16"
Layer under DSP: 4" x 3 11/16"
Next, I cut the image from blue green (lost lagoon) cardstock. Then I used the 2nd largest die from the Oval die set to cut a snowy background from white glitter paper.

I cut the Christmas sentiment using the Merry Christmas w/Shadow die. The shadow is the light blue (card base) and the Christmas phrase is the lost lagoon shade.
Now that all my card elements are prepared, I am ready to start card assembly. I attached the designer paper layers to the card base using double sided tape.
I attached the image panel to the white glitter panel with Art glitter glue. Then I attached to the card base with dimensional adhesive.
To finish off my card I attached the Christmas phrase with glue dots and added a few snowflakes for element 4 of the sketch.

Well that's it for me for this week. I hope I have given you a fresh idea for a way to use this new die. We are having a Black Friday release and the DT will begin showing samples starting tomorrow. See you next Saturday!

Santa Gnome in Throne

Good Morning Cottagecutz fans. I hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend crafting. My usual weekend includes dog walks with my Border Terrier Betty and a whole lot of crafting

Todays post is a light tutorial as I will be including a full tutorial on my Friday post

I’m including some of the designs from the new release where you can still get 30% off which is amazing. These dies have really inspired me to make some really different cards, not usually my style. Get your dies why the discount is still available.

Top tip from me today, If I know I’m going to repeat a card, tag etc. many times, I always buy more than one of the design. If you have an A4 cutting plate you can load several does at once.

So lets get on to todays project

I started with a card when folded measured 6” square. The next layer was a piece of red card measuring
5  3/4”square, followed by a silver piece of card measuring 5 1/2” square. Finally I took a piece of white card measuring 5 1/4” square and in the centre using the largest of the nested stitched circles I cut a hole. With all the other pieces of card stick I stuck them down with glue but the white piece of card I adhered using 1mm foam pads.

Next I cut out the Santa Gnome and the chair in the colours above. I used a small stitched oval coloured in blue to act as a rug and then adhered the design on the top with 1mm foam pads. I took the mug from the new Smores die and gave it to Santa. He needed a hot cup of cocoa after delivering all those presents. I used some brown chalk to look like the marshmallow is toasted

I thought it might be nice to adorn the card with some additional elements so I used the ‘Window Christmas Friends’. From this I took the Christmas tree, the vine and the poinsettia. What I liked about the vine is that you could bend it to fit around the tree and also for the top left hand corner of the card.

Finally I used the new ‘Merry Christmas W/Shadow’ sentiment. I think the red looks really powerful on the silver card. I used a diamanté above the ‘I’ in Christmas to give the card a little more bling. I attached the sentiment with 1mm foam pads

I really hope you like the card. I’ve tried to keep this simple and clean and a card that can be easily repeated for your crafty stash. Have a wonderful week and I really look forward to seeing you Friday with something a little different

Christmas Deer at Mailbox

Hello CottageCutz friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit with us today. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Saturday edition of the Blog.

IT'S NEW RELEASE TIME! The new Christmas dies are in the online store with 40 new designs from Christmas Part 1 and 19 new designs from Christmas Part 2 and they are on a limited time sale at 30% off.

Today for your viewing pleasure, I am featuring the whimsical Christmas Deer w/Mailbox and The Merry Christmas w/Shadow dies. This one will go to my sister-in-law who loves woodland animals and feeds the deer regularly. So let's get started on some details of how I created my card.

Design Steps:

This week I started my card with my layout. As I have said so many times before having the sketch in mind helps start as well as simplify the card making process for me. I liked the sketch #877 at Splitcoaststampers. I thought it would work well for this cute little Christmas deer.
Next, I cut the images and stuck with the traditional Christmas colors of red and green.
Then I looked through my selection of Christmas paper to see what would work for the sketch I chose. I found one that I liked. I thought I would use some vellum over the designer paper to tone down the somewhat busy pattern.

red card base: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
designer paper layer: 4 1/8" x 5 3/8"
white layer (element 3 of sketch: - 1 3/4" x 4 1/8"
Next, I cut my Merry Christmas w/Shadow sentiment in red and green. Love this new shadow die
Now that my card elements are prepared I am ready to start assembly. I attached the vellum to the designer paper with glue dots. I put them in places that I new would be covered with the white panel and then the images.
The white panel with the sentiment is attached with double sided tape. I trimmed the design paper layer a bit because I was going to attach a snow bank.
The images are attached next with dimensional adhesive. I cut two snow banks from the North Pole die and attached them with double sided tape. I added two snowflakes for elements 4 & 5 of the sketch to complete my card.
Well, that's it for me for this week. I hope I have given you an idea for a way to use these new Christmas dies. See you next Saturday.

Ride On Gnomie Santa

 Hello Friends

Guess What!! It is New Release Time!  The collection is Christmas Part 2!  There are are 19 new designs just as adorable as the Christmas Part 1 release.  For a limited time you can save 55% off the entire bundle or 30% off individual dies.  You can check all of these fantastic dies out right HERE!

Today my Z-Fold card is using Santa Gnome w/ Silly Reindeer. There are several gnomes in this release and who doesn't love gnomes!!

Design Steps

1.  Cut the pieces out using the Santa Gnome w/Silly Reindeer and red, brown, dark brown, gold, silver, white green, tan and black

2.  Shade the pieces and assemble with a fine tip glue

3.  For the card base cut white card stock 4 1/4 x 11. Fold in half and then fold the front fold in half again.  Cut 2 pieces of silver glitter paper 2 7/8 x 4 1/8 and 2 pieces of navy dotted DP 2 1/2 x 4.  Next cut a silver glitter piece 5 1/4 x 4 1/8 and a piece of navy dotted DP 5 x 3 3/4
4.  Glue the silver layer down first and then the navy dotted DP down next
5.  For the Z- Fold arm cut a piece of white card stock 11 x 1 fold in half.  Then fold in half one of the flaps again.  Before attaching it to the card front cut silver glitter paper 3/4 x 5 1/4 and two pieces of glitter paper 3/4 x 2 1/2 and glue to the arm.  Glue the strip to the card front as shown above and below

6.  Using the Merry Christmas w/Shadow die cut out two in white card stock and glue them together
7.  Glue the Merry Christmas to the card front.  I decided I needed a little interest in the background. So I used the Slimline Mountain and Trees die and cut out the snowcapped mountains and the tree line.  I then cut them to fit the large background panel and the small side panel.  Then glued them down.  I glued down the gnome and reindeer on the front arm of the z-fold.  I also used the Snowflake Background Slimline to cut out a few snowflakes glued them down and the card is complete
