M - Fold Cat Sympathy

Hi crafters!

Kris here sharing with you a fun fold sympathy card I made for a friend who recently lost her beloved cat after a long battle of health issues.  I've used the Loyal Pets die along with the Love My Dog, Love My Cat die and the hearts are from the Be My Valentine Puppies and the Stitched Heart Set to create this Marvelous Fold card which got its name because it has an "M" shape when displayed.

*Please pardon my bad lighting and tint of my process photos below.  Using a purple mat is not idea for photos as it changes so much and messes with the colors of my papers etc.  I've used Doodle Bug Designs 6" paper pad called Fairy Garden because I thought the rainbows go with a pet who has "crossed over the rainbow bridge."

CUTTING & SCORING:

White Card Base = 4-1/4" x 10-1/2" scored at 2-1/4", 2-1/2", 5", 5-1/2", 8" and 8-1/4"

Cloud patterned paper = 4" x 2-1/4" (x2)

Rainbow patterned paper = 4"h  x 2"w (x4)

Pink cardstock = 4" x 1/4"

DESIGN STEPS:

1.  Fold and burnish all score lines on card base as follows:

  • the 5" and 5-1/2" score lines are mountain folds and all others are valley folds

2.  Tape or glue the center strip between center score lines.  Adhere the 2-1/4" wide (cloud papers) to the middle panels, and the 2" wide (rainbow papers) to the outside panels.

3.  Fold the outside panels in (like a gate-fold)  and attach the other 2" wide (rainbow papers) to the front panels

4.  Die cut the decorative elements as shown below and assemble.

5.  Add some foam tape in the center of pink strip and attach the heart.

6.  Top open, bend side panels back until the flaps open and stand up as shown.

A hand written message and/or stamped sentiment can be added to the back of card.

Love My Pets!

Happy Friday!  It's Jeanne posting today.  I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!  Rather than a card today, I decided to do two framed pieces that would be perfect for the pet lover in your life.
My initial thought was do make a card, but I had the 4 x 6 frames from a package of frames I had previously purchased and this design just worked so well with them.  However, this design could easily be made into a card.

I first cut all the pieces from various colors of card stock.
For the dog, I used Crumb Cake, Soft Suede and Real Read.
For the cat, I used Basic Black, Basic Grey and Real Red.  (Can you tell I have a brown dog and a grey cat at home?  LOL.)  My white panels are cut 4 x 6 inches to fit the frame.
Next, I embossed each panel with a falling hearts embossing folder.
I placed the pieces on each panel.  Before gluing them down I put the frame on top (minus the glass which I threw out) to see how the layout would look, and how much border I had around the layout.
When I was satisfied with each layout I glued the pieces to the embossed panel.  For the cat panel I went with a vertical layout since the kitty is rather small.  Because the dog is a bit larger, I used a horizontal layout for her.

These make fun, quick gifts for the pet lover in your life - even if that is YOU!

Staring into the Night

Hi!

It's Anja here. Today I have two cards for you. When I saw both dies it only seemed logical to combined it with a landscape background. And with adding different sentiments we could make cards for different occasions.

For two cards I used:
- Cottage Cutz dies (Santa & Reindeer Resting, Loyal Pets),
- Distress Inks (Vintage Photo, Brushed Corduroy, Barn Door, Aged Mahogany, Black Soot, Peeled Paint. Twisted Citron, Stormy Sky, Pumice Stone, Seedless Preserves, Faded Jeans, Chipped Sapphire),
- 2x white card bases (13x13 cm),
- white card stock for die cuts and background,
- watercolor paper for background (12x12 cm),
- dark blue card stock for background (12,3x12,3 cm),
- water spritzer,
- white acrylic paint,
- brush,
- heat gun,
- paper glue.

I started with cutting and coloring the images. First Santa and Reindeer.

And then the dog and the cat.

Next I made the background. I used different shades of Distress Inks and blended it together. I used watercolor paper for background.

Then I spritzed the paper with water and dried it. And next I used white acrylic paint to made the snow. Again I dried it and made one more.

I used white card bases. And I cut two more dark blue background papers.

For the snow I used white paper and cut it with the scissors. I just cut the paper as it would look like the ground where the images sit. I used grey Distress Ink for the edges.

And then I just arranged and glued everything together and two card were made.

And that's all I have for you today. I just want to invite you to the The Scrapping Cottage online store to check out the sales.

Have a nice Sunday.
Anja Z.

Black Friday Release Samples (Part 4)

Hello Scrapping Cottage friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit today. We are on our final day of sampling DT cards from the brand new Black Friday Release Bundle.

There are 16 new pet designs in this release. And for a limited time the individual dies are on sale at 30% off. Or you can purchase the entire release for $99.95 and you will save 60%.

We have been featuring designs from the team all week. So if you missed them check here, here and here.  We wanted to  give you some creative ideas for using the dies. Our cards today are all about the dogs.

Card 1: The first sample today is one that I (Mary Marsh) have created using the charming Dapper Dachshund die. This little debonair doxie is just to cute with her ruffled sweater and sweet bonnet. I picked the plaid designer paper because I thought it had that same sweet appeal as she does.
The sentiment just seemed so right to describe her. This card would work for anyone who loves Dachshunds or even as a way to just let a friend know you are thinking of her.
Card 2: Our next sample is from Pam MacKay. She used the adorable Good Boy Puppy die on her sharp looking card today. She used some fun dog bone designer paper and the Love my dog phrase to tie her dog themed card together. This is such a fun and easy card to re-create and would be perfect for a new pet owner.
Card 3: Our 3rd sample is from Lois Bak. She used the Loyal Pets die on her card today. She created a great nighttime scene using a beautiful star themed designer paper. The dog and cat seem totally captivated and enjoying the stargazing. Her peace sentiment really describes this card quite well. This would make a wonderful Christmas card.
Well that concludes the group posts featuring the new Pet release dies. I hope you have enjoyed the eye candy that's been presented this week. And that the team has given you some inspiration and new ideas for using these dies.
