Oh No Kitty w/ Pop Up

Hey crafty friends!

It's Kris here to share some Monday inspiration with you!  I've got an interactive card for someone under the weather or has had an injury -- it's sure to make them *SMILE*  Featured on my card is Oh No Kitty, First Aid KitOuch w/ Tooth, and the giraffe from Safari Adventure Gang!

**I got the idea for this particular interactive feature from a crafty gal I follow on IG:  Srushti Patil (@srushtipatil on Instagram) and it was meant to be an interactive album page, but as you can see, I've used it as a fun element inside my card.  I've changed up the measurements (to inches) to make it easier.  I hope you'll give it a try!

DESIGN STEPS:

I started by cutting all my base card elements:

Grey cardstock:
---(Card Base)  8-1/2" x 5-1/2" scored at 4-1/4"
---(inside cover mechanism) 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" - scored at 1/2" and 1" on one end
---(pop out mechanism) 1-5/8" x 7-1/2"
---(pop out image panels, x2) 2-1/8" x 2-1/2"
---(left inside panel) 2-1/2" x 3-3/4" (not pictured below)

Pink/white patterned paper #1 (gingham):
---(front of card)  5-1/4" x 4"
---(inside cover mechanism)  1/4" x 2-1/4"
---(left inside panel) 2-1/4" x 3-1/2" (not pictured below)

Grey/white patterned paper:
---(inside layers x 2)  5-1/4" x 4"

Pink/white patterned paper #2:
---(pop out image panels)  1-7/8" x 2-1/4"

White cardstock:
---(inside cover mechanism)  2-1/4" x 3-1/4"

1.  Adhere the pink gingham paper to the front of card and the grey/white patterned layers (2) to the inside of your card.

2.  Adhere the white cardstock to the largest portion of the inside cover mechanism.  Glue the narrow pink/white patterned strip between the 2 score lines of cover mechanism.  (see photo below)

3.  Adhere the 2 pink/white image panels to the 2 grey image panel mats.  Set aside.

4.  With the pop out mechanism (1-5/8" x 7-1/2") vertical in front of you, measure and mark w/ pencil  at 3/8" and 1" across the top and bottom.  Draw a line both lines vertically.

5.  Turn mechanism so that the 3/8" tab is at the top horizontally, and measure and place a mark at 2-1/2" and 5" across top and bottom, draw lines vertically to connect as shown below.

6.  Along the bottom line (at 1" line) measure and place a mark at 3-1/8" and 4-3/8" as shown below.

7.  Using the photo below for reference, Draw diagonal lines from corner to those marks you just drew.

8.  Cut away the 4 corner sections as shown in photo below by scribbles.

9.  SCORE along the bold lines in photo below (the diagonal lines and 2 horizontal lines)

10.  Push in on the diagonal score lines which will cause the mechanism to fold like this:

11.  Open it back up.  With the 3/8" tab at the top, apply glue to the outer arms as shown.  Be sure NOT to add glue clear up to the diagonal line... try to stop with the edge of the tab.

12.  With the image panels horizontal, line up the TOPS of them with the top edge of the glued arms.

13.  Pull the 2 panels together so they overlap, and turn mechanism over and apply glue to the back section as shown.  Turn it right side up and position it into the center fold of card.

**TIP:  It helps to lift the left side of card to form a 90 degree angle so that you make sure not to go over the score line.

14.  Add glue to the angled portion on top --- be sure not to get glue on the scored tab!  Close the card and rub fingers over the mechanism to adhere.

15.  Open card up flat and fold the 3/8" flap down.  Apply glue to tab and attach the short edge of cover (not the tabbed end) so the edge lines up with the edge of tab.

16.  Apply glue to the far right tab as shown and tuck it under to adhere.

Mechanism is done!!  Time to decorate!!

Die cut the following:
Oh No Kitty from grey and white cardstock
First Aid Kit from white cardstock
Ouch! from Ouch w/ Tooth
the giraffe from Safari Adventure Gang from white c.s.
Hugs w/ Shadow from both pink and white c.s.
the 2-3/4" Stitched Squares die from pink patterned paper
the 3-1/8" Nested Scalloped Square die from white c.s.

I colored the white die cuts with Distress Oxide inks and a blending brush.

I thought it'd be cute to take this giraffe's temperature with the thermometer from First Aid Kit.  ☺

I hope you enjoyed this pictorial and will give it a try!

Have a CRAFT-tastic week!

IT'S NEW RELEASE TIME! The Spring Release with 20 new designs is in the online store. The individual dies are currently at 30% off. There is a nice combination of both religious and whimsical designs. So perfect for all card makers out there.

And the dies don't have to be used strictly for Spring or Easter. The team has done Valentine, Birthday and Thinking of You cards with these new dies. Take a look back on the Blog for lots of ideas.

And because it's President's Day weekend, we have a sale going on with up to 60% off selected dies. So, check out the store early for best selections.

Today, I have for your viewing pleasure a whimsical card for Easter featuring the new Miss Spring Bunny die. So, let's get started with some details on how I created my card.

Design Steps:

I decided to make a fun fold card for today's post. This fold is called a center step. I bought these precut cardstock panels at my local stamp store. I felt it was a bonus when I spotted them.  But I will give a link that shows how to cut this particular fold. Here is a link to a Splitcoaststampers tutorial- there are photos as well as a YouTube video.

I cut blue and green ombre designer paper for the center and side panels and layered with the coordinating cardstock. The center panel is 4 3/8" x 3 1/4" and the side panels are 1" x 4 3/8".
I attached the panels to the card base with double sided tape.
I cut my bunny image with various colors of cardstock. I used colors that would coordinate with the designer paper panels and also project a spring vibe.
Next, I stamped my sentiment in a grape ink. It was a bit tricky because the panel was already attached and I didn't want to remove it.

My stamp is a red rubber wood base, so I had to use my stamp-a-ma-jig for alignment. When I use this method, I only get one shot at inking because I can never line it up straight again. It didn't stamp quite as dark as I wanted but I think it's ok.
I attached my bunny image with glue dots and double-sided tape.
I decided to add a hugs phrase on the image panel. I used the Hugs w/Shadow die. Then for the side panels I added some tulips. I cut them from the Spring Kitten w/Envelope die in a light purple cardstock.
I finished off my card by scattering a few butterflies and adding a few hearts on the sentiment panel.   And that's my card for this week. I hope I have given you a way to use this ever so cute little bunny. See you next Saturday!!

Hockey Bunny Valentine

Hello CottageCutz friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit with us today. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Saturday edition of the Blog.

IT'S NEW RELEASE TIME! The Winter Release with 15 new designs is in the online store. They are perfect for creating cards for all your winter celebrations. I think they work great for Valentine cards. You can pick them up on a limited time 30% off sale.

Today, I am using the new Winter Hockey Bunny to create a masculine Valentine card. I have little boys that I send Valentine cards to so this will be a cute one for one of them. I like to make non-traditional cards for this holiday, and I thought this image would work great for a boy or even an adult man.

Design Steps:

I started my card this week with the colors from this week's color challenge #878 on Splitcoaststampers. I was hosting the challenge and I chose daffodil delight, pacific point and rich razzleberry for the color trio. Optional was to make a masculine Valentine card.
daffodil delight, pacific point, rich razzleberry
For the layout I used a sketch I found online from the Sunday Stamps Blog.
I cut the hockey bunny with cardstock in the challenge colors.
Next, I chose the colors for the card base and the sketch layers. I used pacific point cardstock and embossed with a hearts folder. For the 2 rectangles of the sketch, I used designer paper and cut with the 5th largest of the Stitched Rectangle die.
Now that my card elements are prepared, I am ready to start assembly. I attached the card layers to the base with double sided tape. Since this is a Valentine card, I decided to place the hockey bunny in the center of a heart. I used the largest heart from the Heart Set and cut in white cardstock and attached with dimensional adhesive.
After I attached the heart, I realized I forgot to stamp the sentiment I wanted. So, with the help of my MISTI I was able to get it stamped and even did a 2nd stamping. I used pacific point ink. The Hockey Bunny is attached with glue dots.
To complete my card, I used the Hugs w/Shadow die and cut a sentiment and then scattered a few hearts. They are cut in the rich razzleberry color. I used the Be My Valentine Puppies die to cut the hearts.

And that's my sample for this week. I hope I have given you a new idea for a way to use this cute hocky bunny to create a Valentine card. Do you have any hockey players that you could send a card like this to? The die is available in our online store and it's 30% off right now.

Pet Sympathy Card

Hello Scrapping Cottage friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit with us today. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Saturday edition of the Blog.

IT'S NEW RELEASE TIME! The Scrapping Cottage has just added a new brand to the company line. Lil' Bluebird Designs is being introduced with 16 new Photopolymer Clear Stamp Sets and 16 coordinating dies. There are stamps for so many of your card making occasions and then some. The coordinating dies just make it a perfect fit for your card making designs.

They are currently on sale at  25% off.

And speaking of new releases, we have just introduced new CottageCutz Sentiments with Shadows. There are 12 phrases in this new release and you can pick these up at a 25% off price as well.
The shadow dies are so popular right now and they coordinate so well with the new Lil' Bluebird Stamps and dies.

Today for your viewing pleasure I am featuring the new Puppy Love Stamp & Die Set + Hugs w/Shadow die. I used the set to create a pet sympathy card. I never seem to have one of these cards on hand when a friend or family member loses a pet. So let's get started with some details on how I created my card.

Design Steps:
Having a layout in mind at the card start is always a big boost for me. That way I can just choose the card colors and designer paper, and I am good to go. I liked this week's Sketch #869 from Splitcoaststampers. I thought it was a great layout to use several of the stamps.
I found this dog themed paper in my collection. I liked all the "dog" words and the distressed appeal of the paper. Even with the diamond shape you can still read though a lot of the words.

Maraschino red card base: 4 3/4" square
Designer Paper Layer: 4 1/2" square
Diamond Layer (Element 2) - 2nd largest Stitched Square die
Circle Layer: 3rd largest Circle Set
Next, I stamped and colored the images from the set that I was using for my card.
I cut my Hugs sentiment from the maraschino & a dark brown cardstock.
I used the following Copic markers and Prismacolor pencils for my color medium.

I used a stamp that had the words "sending big" and stamped that in the circle. Used my MISTI just in case a double inking was required and it was.
Now I am ready to start card assembly. I attached the card layers with double sided tape.
To finish off my card front, I attached the images with dimensional adhesive. The "hugs" phrase is attached with glue dots.

To complete the inside, I stamped a pet sympathy sentiment. I used the paw print from this stamp set just for a little added interest.
And that's my card for this week. I hope I have given you another idea of a different way to use these new stamps and dies. Sometimes you just have to think "out of the box". See you next Saturday.
