Aloha

Hello!  This is Sukie and today I have a tropical card to share.   I used 2 die sets from the Beach & Tropical die release.  These dies are perfect for those summery creations!

I cut out the pieces from the Aloha & Ukulele and Tropical Fruit die sets.  Everything was shaded with some Oxide Inks.  I used a variety of colors to give all of the die cuts some depth and dimension.  

My card is a standard A2 size and was lightly shaded with some ink leaving a white center.  I used the same ink to add a lot of splatters to the background of my card.

The "Aloha" sentiment was angled across the top edge of my card.  I love the whimsical look of this sentiment.

Next, the pineapples were affixed to my card base.  I off set them a bit and centered them within the non-shaded part of my card.

The orange slice and tropical drink were layered onto the set of pineapples.  The bright and colorful fruit is the perfect combination with the tropical drink.

The tropical leaves and pretty hibiscus were added for a finishing touch on my card.  This card make a fun way to say "aloha."

Aloha Friday

Aloha!  It's Jeanne to day with a fun vintage Hawaiian card featuring dies from the new Beach and Tropical Release.  This release is perfect for summer and right now it's 25% off for a limited time!

The card is actually quite easy to make but does involve some ink blending.  I wanted to make sure that there was a good variety in my browns and I tend to use the same colors all the time.  So before I undertook the coloring, I organized my Distress Oxide inks to see exactly what I had.  Previously they were all thrown in a drawer!

So....I cut all the pieces in white from the Aloha & Ukulele and the Tropical Fruit dies. Then I used blending brushes and colored them using these Distress Oxide inks:

It may seem like a lot but you'll notice there is overlap in the colors I used on the objects.  It really didn't take long and I love the color depth I got!

Next I cut a slim line card (folded size is 3 1/2 x8 1/2 inches) and a panel from wood look paper 3 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches.

I took a scrap piece of white cardstock and stenciled a sky background.

Using the middle size of the Stitched Wide Circle Frames, I cut three from the sky and three from green cardstock.

I inserted the middle part of the sky into the center of the frames.  I now have some "sky" patterned frames which I am storing with my dies for future use!

I cut the word Aloha from dark brown cardstock.  I toyed with the idea of using a bright color but I really didn't want the greeting to compete with the colors of my objects.

I arranged the word and the frames on my panel....

and then cut off the overhang.

I then added all my objects. I used the watermelon slice and turned it into a pineapple slice simply by changing the colors!  This card was fun to create and went quickly once I knew what colors I wanted to use.
